Record Suspension

A Record Suspension (Pardon) application can be completed by individuals without the assistance of a lawyer or any other agency.

If it has been five (5) years (summary offence) or ten (10) years (indictable offence), since you completed your last sentence, you may be eligible to apply to the Parole Board of Canada for a record suspension. The booklet is available, free of charge from their website.

NOTE: there have been recent changes to eligibility criteria that may or may not affect you. The Parole Board of Canada has listed answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on their website to help you to determine if you are affected by these changes. The following is a link to more information on eligibility and to download the Record Suspension Application Guide:

Part of the application process involves submitting fingerprints. If you live in the City of North Bay, this may be done by attending at the North Bay Police Service to book an appointment. There is a fee of $34.40 and you must present two pieces of valid government issued identification (one with a photo).

When your fingerprints are received back from the R.C.M.P., a copy of the Local Police Records Check form in the booklet must be taken to every police agency where you have lived in the past five (5) years. In North Bay, this form must be brought to the North Bay Police Service between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, along with two pieces of valid government issued identification (one with a photo). We charge a fee of $11.75 for this service.

If you no longer live in the North Bay area and cannot attend at the North Bay Police Service, you can mail the Local Police Records Check form to us at the following address:

North Bay Police Service
Attention: Office Manager
P.O. Box 717
North Bay, Ontario, P1B 8J8

A clear photocopy of two pieces of valid government issued identification (one with photo) must accompany the form, along with a certified cheque or a postal or bank money order in the amount of $11.75 CDN. The form will be processed and mailed back to you. Please be sure to indicate a return address.

It takes approximately 4-8 weeks to process, including mailing time.
