A Police Information and Vulnerable Sector Check is the most comprehensive of all levels of checks.
It includes all of the information contained in the standard Police Information Check as well as additional detail.
This is designed specifically for applicants who are working in the vulnerable sector.
It confirms whether or not the subject has a criminal record of convictions in Canada for which fingerprints were taken. It may also provide additional details from police files on recent and non-relevant convictions to the person/position being applied for, judicial orders that may still be in effect, outstanding charges and warrants and other potential relevant information. It also includes a check for convictions for sexual offences for which the applicant has received a pardon or record suspension.
It is the most appropriate for persons working as teachers, nurses, personal support care workers, day-care staff, retirement nursing home staff, scout leaders, big brothers and big sisters, foster parents, or anyone working with children, the elderly or persons with physical or cognitive challenges.
Please note that applicants requesting this level of check may be required to submit fingerprints as a result of an inconclusive vulnerable sector search. This means that your gender and birthdate have matched to an individual who has received a pardon or record suspension. You will receive further notification and instruction should your fingerprints be required. In general, less than 5% of VS applicants are required to provide fingerprints.
While individual agencies may have internal policies that mandate a VS check for their employees and volunteers, we are under no obligation to provide this level of check if the position does not meet the necessary criteria.
